Frequently asked questions
What is Suga?+
Suga is a cloud deployment platform by Nitric. It lets developers deploy Docker containers and full-stack applications with zero-downtime deploys, automatic HTTPS, built-in CDN, and real-time observability.
Is Suga free?+
Yes. Suga Free includes 1 project, 1 environment, zero-downtime deploys, HTTPS, global CDN, logs, and metrics. No credit card required.
Do I need a credit card to get started?+
No. Suga Free requires no credit card — just sign up and start deploying. A credit card is only needed when you upgrade to Pro.
What frameworks does Suga support?+
Suga supports any application that runs in a Docker container, including Django, FastAPI, Node.js, Next.js, Laravel, Flask, Bun, and more. It also supports Deno-based functions natively and includes pre-configured templates for PostgreSQL, Redis, and MariaDB.
Can I deploy Docker containers on Suga?+
Yes. Suga supports any Docker container or Dockerfile. You can also import existing docker-compose.yml files to bring multi-service projects onto the platform.
How does Suga manage infrastructure?+
Suga abstracts away all infrastructure management. You deploy containers and Suga handles scheduling, networking, scaling, and self-healing.
What is Suga's visual canvas?+
The visual canvas lets you design your infrastructure visually. Add services, databases, and networking components as interactive nodes, then connect them together. Every change is recorded in an immutable history, so you get version control, audit trails, and point-in-time rollback without needing a Git repo or IaC.
How fast are deployments on Suga?+
Average deployment time is under 10 seconds. Suga checks that the new container starts and stays running, then cuts over traffic with zero downtime.
Can I use my own infrastructure?+
Yes. The Enterprise plan supports Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC), allowing you to deploy Suga on your own infrastructure with custom pricing, dedicated support, and SLA.
Who built Suga?+
Suga is built by Nitric, an infrastructure automation company that also maintains the open-source Nitric framework for cloud-portable applications.
How do hosting credits work?+
Each Pro seat includes $20/month in hosting credits, applied automatically to your compute, storage, and network charges on Suga Cloud. Credits are pooled across your organization — a team of 5 gets $100/month in credits. If usage exceeds your credits, you’re billed at the same published rates. Credits reset each billing cycle and do not roll over.
How much does a typical project cost on Suga Cloud?+
A small API (0.25 vCPU, 256 MiB) and database (0.125 vCPU, 512 MiB, 2 GB disk) runs about $17/month — covered by a single Pro seat’s hosting credits. Costs scale linearly with the resources you allocate, and you only pay for what you use.
Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?+
Yes. You can switch between plans at any time from your dashboard. Upgrades take effect immediately and downgrades apply at the end of your current billing cycle.
